Digital Content Mining

Now that the semester is in full swing, I am embarking on a new project to use Digital Humanities tools in the high school classroom. Working with several graduate students, we are crafting a DH unit plan that combines teaching a history unit with a digital tool in the humanities. I am excited to see what will come out of this project. This is the first step. The second step will be for this unit to be taught in a variety of classrooms throughout the region and to record the responses of both teachers and students. We will then write up our findings and present them at a national conference. At least that is the plan.
Teaching with Digital History should not be limited to paid apps or pre-packaged tools. Students are capable of doing analysis, working through problems, and resolving historical questions. We should expect more of them and ourselves.
